Virgin London Marathon 2015/16/17
Course – Fast and almost flat. Arguably the greatest road race in the world. Attracts over 35 thousand runners every year with thousands turned away and left disappointed. No wonder they are disappointed as this race through England’s capital provides incredible support for almost the full 26.2 miles and at a price that you would struggle to enter many major shorter distance races. All entrants receive a goody bag at the expo as well as at the finish along with a quality t-shirt and large medal. Generous amount of water and aid stations providing bottles unlike any other world marathon major, which is a massive help when running and refuelling. Organisation for a race so large is quite simply brilliant and is a must race for any runner.
Attendance: 37,000 Course record: 2:03.05 Entry price: £35 Website:https://www.virginmoneylondonmarathon.com/en-gb/

New York Marathon
TCS New York City Marathon 2016
Course – A few inclines and lonely patches with no support. Some incredible views along the route but also some fairly boring stretches with little support. The surface was uneven in places and the ground extremely hard but still a wonderful marathon to participate in with a few breathtaking moments where the scenery is pretty much unrivalled by any marathon I have participated in. For faster runners than myself and even people at my speed the race was extremely lonely and you can find yourself running for miles by yourself, unlike any major marathon I have participated in. Plenty of water and aid stations providing cups which make race day nutrition a bit of a task. Medal and decent goody bag for all finishers, including water, protein shake and chocolate bar. A good quality NYC long sleeve t-shirt provided at the expo for all participants. Overall a good marathon but not in the same league as London and for the price it just shows what a fantastic race we have in April right on our door step.
Course record: 2.05:06
Entry price: $347
